Château d’Orion
The Chateau d’Orion lies in southwestern France between Biarritz
and Pau, the St. Moritz of the Pyrenees, about which Kurt Tucholsky wrote
in his diary: „To look out over the plain from the terrace of the
Place Royal in Pau to the mountain chain of the Pyrenees, is to hear a
symphony in A major.“ Here come together mountains and water, pilgrims
and others crossing the border between France and Spain, surfers and philosophers.
This hilly landscape is home to wild boars and the vineyards of the Jurançon,
whose wine was used to baptize Henry IV, „the good King of France“.
Chateau d’Orion, a typical country residence of the nobility of
the Province of Béarn, has a vibrant history steeped in tradition.
Its furnishings and décor spanning many centuries hold stories
and secrets, which the house tells its visitors in the form of letters,
calling cards, paintings, furniture, garments and other gems. This „living
history“ is a part of the inspiration which visitors to the house
experience.
Since 2002, the property belongs to the Premauer family, whose objective
is to create a space for encounters and dialogues in which the things
of bygone days are visible and tangible.
Chateau d’Orion offers its visitors ten lovingly renovated rooms
with all modern comforts paired with the charm of the past. Concerts are
regularly held in the large salon. In addition, a smaller salon outfitted
with technical equipment for business meetings as well as a rustic room
with a large, open fireplace are available to all guests.
